Impressionists were maybe provocative at their times, but carefully stayed out of controversy and shocking. In accordance with social situation (fall of the Second Empire, Commune...), new artistic ideals and economic interests, sexuality stayed out of their works... with a couple of exceptions indeed. Between 1872 and 1875 Paul Cézanne made a couple of exceptional paintings with quite strong Femdom savor.

In 1869 thirty years old Cézanne met his future wife, 11 years younger model Marie-Hortense Fiquet. Having a child together in 1972, they got married in 1886, but lived separately. Marie-Hortense has been described as 'high maintenance' Woman and although Cézanne often spoke ill of Her ('my Wife only cares for Switzerland and lemonade'), he kept making Her portraits - 29 of them survived.
